The Student’s Guide to Hometown Holidays

Written by: Autumn Fox, Account Executive

Winter is approaching and finals are right around the corner. Luckily, the Ellensburg Downtown Association’s Hometown Holidays offers plenty of festive activities to lift the spirits of locals and students alike. Make sure to mark your calendar for these great upcoming events brought to you by the Ellensburg Downtown Association.

Plaid Friday – Friday Nov. 28 @ Times vary by store

Skip out on the Black Friday swarm and don your flannel for this national event. Plaid Friday is all about supporting the creativity and ingenuity of local businesses. Downtown Ellensburg will be bustling with bargains—especially for those wearing plaid. The variety of stores in Downtown Ellensburg guarantees a gift for everyone on your list. Grab a friend and enjoy stress-free and guilt-free holiday shopping.

Snowball Drop – Saturday Dec. 6 @ 12pm

Stop by the Rotary Pavilion for one of Ellensburg’s most unique holiday traditions. Watch Kittitas Valley Fire and Rescue create a faux snowstorm as they drop hundreds of ping-pong balls from their sky-high fire ladder. This free event draws a big crowd, so be sure to get there early. The Snowball Drop is a sight to behold, but it also gives its participants the chance to win big. Each ping-pong ball displays a discount, gift, or giveaway from local Ellensburg businesses. Just don’t tell your grandma you used a ping-pong ball to buy her gift.

Girls Night Out – Thursday Dec. 11 @ 5-9pm

This popular event is the best way to celebrate the end of the quarter. Exclusively for the ladies, Girls Night Out offers a night of relaxation, pampering, and shopping. This semi-annual event is perfect for meeting new people and discovering new stores. Downtown Ellensburg businesses will offer free refreshments, massages, and more. For every $10 spent at participating stores, shoppers will be entered to win an exclusive gift basket. Maps featuring the participating businesses will be published the week of the event.

Hometown Holidays includes dozens of other events throughout this busy holiday season. Be sure to check out the Hometown Holidays 2014 guide or the Ellensburg Downtown Association’s Hometown Holiday page for more information on everything Ellensburg has to offer.
