The Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) Bateman team at Central Washington University (CWU) is hosting the Pop of Orange 5K, powered by Popmoney. The event will take place on Sunday, February 23, 2014 on the CWU campus. Registration is $6, which includes the Popmoney transaction fee. All proceeds will go to the CWU Foundation to create a student scholarship. 5K registration opens at 9 a.m. and the race will start at 10 a.m. The 5k event is part of a competition that the team has been preparing for since June 2013. The Bateman Case Study Competition is PRSSA’s premiere national case study competition for public relations students. Last year, CWU’s Bateman team placed honorable mention among fifteen other universities in the nation for their “Stomp Out Bullying” campaign. This year’s campaign client is Fiserv. Inc., a leading global provider of financial services and digital technology solutions. “We are trying to bring awareness to the app and increase usage among central students,” Said Bateman team member Mia Patterson. The Bateman team is increasing awareness by requiring participants of the Pop of Orange 5K to pay for registration using the Popmoney app, which can be accessed using a mobile device. The 5K will inform participants of Popmoney’s services while also offering them a chance to invest in the education of a CWU student. Participants will also have the chance to take part in a raffle drawing for a prize that will be raffled off at the end of the race; prizes will include gift certificates to local businesses such as Cornerstone Pie, Dominos and The Wildcat Shop. The most outrageously orange dressed person will be awarded a prize, as well as the first male and female to finish the 5K. Aside from the 5K, the Bateman team has put together commercials that will be aired throughout the CWU community on channels 14 & 15 with help from CATtv. In addition, they have partnered with U.S. Bank to hold student financial nights in residence halls on campus, giving CWU students insight about the app, its benefits and how it works.
